Chemical Analysis

You are here:

Chemical analysis is carried out to identify the elements present in a sample and determine their concentration. The results can be useful for understanding the composition of metals and other materials.

The Industrial Development and Testing Laboratory carries out this work using laboratory methods and instrumental equipment. The facility is located in Kolkata, West Bengal.

What is Chemical Analysis Testing?

Chemical analysis testing methods vary depending on the material and the information required from the sample.

The laboratory uses wet chemical procedures as well as optical emission spectroscopy. These methods can be used for examining metals, alloys and selected non metallic samples.

The results may be used for material identification, quality checks, production related investigations, research and other technical purposes.

The laboratory uses a German made VAS Spectrometer Model Platinum.

The instrument can examine several elements at the same time and can be used across a broad range of concentrations. It is suitable for examining different grades of metals and alloys.

The equipment is also capable of measuring nitrogen in selected steel grades.

For carbon and low alloy steel, nitrogen can be measured from 10 PPM to 150 PPM.

For stainless steel, the range is 200 PPM to 700 PPM.

The equipment can be used for incoming material inspection, process related checks, alloy identification, research and certification work.

Materials That Can Be Analysed

The equipment can be used to examine the following materials:
